Jennifer Whitlow, MT-BC

Biography:
Jennifer has been a MT-BC since 2011, after completing her BS degree in Music Therapy and Psychology at Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College.  Prior to completing her music therapy degree, she completed a BS in Music in 2008 from Indiana State University.  Upon completing her degree in music therapy, she began working with individuals with special needs on the Medicaid Waiver in Bloomington, IN.  She has since serviced many clients and families on the waiver in Bloomington, Indianapolis, and the surrounding areas.   In addition to serving families on the Medicaid Waiver, she also provides services in Eldercare, ABA, and more.  She also serves as President of the Association for Indiana Music Therapy and Secretary for the Great Lakes Region-American Music Therapy Association (GLR-AMTA).  She is actively involved in the state and region, and is an active member in the national level of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).  Jennifer also offers presentation about music therapy and entrepreneur training.

Emily Theurer, MT-BC

Biography:
Emily is a native of Bismarck, North Dakota. She was involved in auditioned community children’s choirs as well as school music programs growing up and trained in ballet for 17 years. She received her Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy summa cum laude from the University of North Dakota where she worked with a variety of populations, from newborns to older adults. While there she was a member of the Concert Choir, which toured to Havana, Cuba, and co-founded and served as first president of the student organization Autism Speaks U UND. Emily completed her clinical internship at Children’s Hospital New Orleans, working as a part of the inpatient rehabilitation team. She collaborated with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, child life specialists, recreational therapists, physicians, and nurses to work with children and young adults with a variety of needs, including traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromyelitis optica, and medical complications due to non-accidental trauma. She also provided music therapy interventions bedside in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric ICU, Cardiac ICU, Children’s Medical Unit, Cancer Unit, and Respiratory Unit. Emily is looking forward to providing music therapy services to the Indianapolis area.

Amanda Melgarejo, MT-BC

Biography:
Amanda was born and raised in South Florida. She graduated cum laude with her Bachelors of Music in Music Therapy in 2015 from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. At UM, Amanda spent all four years in marching band and Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Service Sorority, and is an active supporter of the marching arts and music. She completed her music therapy internship at Southbury Training School in Southbury, Connecticut serving older adults with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting. In Connecticut, she had the opportunity to provide hospice services for residents and staff, individual and group services in-home and in a school setting, as well as running and setting up weekly summer concerts for local and out-of-state artists. Before coming to Indiana, Amanda provided individual and group music therapy services to the elderly in assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, Alzheimer’s and Dementia units, and nursing and retirement homes.

Diana Buchanan, MM, MT-BC

Biography:
Diana has always been involved and enjoyed music throughout her life. Much of this love comes from her parents and her music teachers where she grew up in Princeton, WV. This love for music led to getting a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Greenville College in Illinois. After college, Diana traveled to Florida to work at Disney World and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, however, music was absent in her role there and she began searching for a new path. Diana discovered music therapy and realized it was the perfect blend of music and helping other’s and quickly began to change her career path. She returned to graduate school in 2015 and graduated with a Master in Music Therapy from Florida State University in 2017. She did her internship at the Salah Foundation Children’s Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, FL providing services to patients in the hospital and has since had a passion for working with the younger generations. Diana is excited about joining the Dynamic Music Therapy Team in providing services to those in and around Indianapolis.

Michelle Cohen, MT-BC

Biography:
A native New Yorker, Michelle has been involved in music ever since she can remember. Whether it be playing Viola in her high school orchestra, or singing in every choir available to her, music has always been an important part of her life. Michelle found out about the music therapy field after her Grandmother sent her an article in one of her nursing journals, and decided to make a career out of it. She received a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, as well as a Bachelor of Music (Voice Concentration) from the State University of New York at Fredonia. While at SUNY Fredonia, Michelle became a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, International Music Fraternity for Women, and is an active member to this day. Because of her musical background, she is an active member in the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir. Michelle had her internship with Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care of Indiana, working alongside Social Workers, RN Case Managers, Art Therapists, Chaplains, and many other care professionals. She has worked on the Indiana Medicaid Waiver for over two years, and is excited to branch out into more areas.

Sarah Swinehart, MT-BC

Biography:
With musical parents paving the way, Sarah grew up heavily involved in music in Kokomo, Indiana. Classical piano, violin, and voice lessons as well as choir and orchestra filled her schedule for many years. Because of these experiences and her love for children, Sarah pursued a bachelor’s degree from Taylor University in Music Education. While attending Taylor, she participated in orchestra, chapel services and two choirs. After a short period of teaching elementary music, Sarah dreamed of combining her passion for holistic health and psychology with music. In 2013, Sarah began her journey toward music therapy through Saint Mary of the Woods College. She completed various practicum placements in Indianapolis working with individuals of all ages and variety of diagnoses. Her internship was with Dynamic Music Therapy where she became familiar with the world of a traveling music therapist. Sarah accepted a position with Dynamic Music Services, Inc. in 2017 after completing her equivalency degree from SMWC and is excited to continue growing with the company!

Corinne McDonald, MT-BC

Biography:
Corinne grew up in Indianapolis until she was 13 and moved to West Palm Beach, Florida where her family still resides. She attended Lee University in Tennessee her freshman year of college, though applied and was accepted as a transfer in November 2012 to Florida State University where she knew she wanted to study music therapy. She finished up her degree program in 2016 where she moved to Columbus, Ohio for her internship at Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare, a forensic psychiatric facility. She stayed in Ohio to work in Cincinnati for a year, though always felt a desire to move back to Indianapolis. She has been working for Dynamic Music Services, Inc. since January 2018 and is excited to see where her career takes her hoping to become involved in state and national music therapy organizations. Corinne earned her NICU-MT certification at Florida State and has a dream to be able to use this one day working with parents and premature infants. For fun Corinne likes to spend time outdoors, play with her cat, and visit local coffee shops.

Rebecca Mathes, MT-BC

Biography:
Originally from Corydon, Indiana, Rebecca grew up in a musical family and developed a passion for music early in life. She fell in love with the piano and flute through her involvement in lessons, as well as high school concert, marching, and jazz bands. Rebecca’s music therapy journey began when she observed a music therapist in a school setting her senior year of high school. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from the University of Evansville. She completed her internship with Music Therapy of the Bluegrass in Lexington, Kentucky working within the Fayette County Schools on student IEP goals and objectives (Grades K-12). Rebecca excited to join the Dynamic Music Therapy team and provide music therapy services to those in and around the Indianapolis area.

Devanne Hargis, MT-BC

Biography:
Devanne is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. Devanne began developing her love for music early in life when she began to study percussion and found her passion particularly for playing marimba while taking lessons, being a part of a competitive marching band and indoor drumline in high school. Devanne wanted to find a career path where she could share her passion for music while also helping others and thus discovered music therapy. She attended the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy as well as a minor in Psychology in 2017. While attending, Devanne was involved in various instrumental and vocal ensembles, Music Therapy Club, and the International Women's Music Fraternity, Sigma Alpha Iota. After earning her degree, Devanne completed her internship at Orchard Manor in Lancaster, Wisconsin where she worked at a nursing facility with older adults as well as adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Devanne is excited to be in Indianapolis to provide music therapy services and be a part of this amazing team of music therapists at Dynamic Music Services, Inc.

Lauren Kell, MT-BC

Biography:
Originally from St. Louis, Lauren began studying music at the age of nine with classical violin and piano. She was actively involved in orchestra and private lessons growing up and discovered the profession of music therapy in high school. Lauren earned a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy and a Minor in Psychology from the University of Dayton in 2017. Throughout her time at Dayton, Lauren was actively involved in orchestra, string quartet, Sigma Alpha Iota, and music therapy club. In June 2016, she had the opportunity to travel to Portland, Jamaica as part of the Jamaica Field Service Project, a service learning trip for music therapy and music education students where she provided music enrichment services in a variety of settings under the supervision of Board-Certified Music Therapists. Lauren completed her internship at Midwest Music Therapy Services in St. Louis, where she primarily worked with individuals diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disabilities in schools and privately in their homes. Lauren is excited to continue working with this population and others in the Indianapolis area as part of the Dynamic Music Therapy team!
